In the mainroom game there aren’t many who have achieved the consistent success of Italian producers Daddy’s Groove. The sheer energy of their output has lifted them to the top table of dance music, collaborations with Guetta and remixes for the likes of SHM cementing their place. We’ve been keeping tabs on them since their earlier work (who could forget their smashing remix of Leave The World Behind) and have taken great delight in their rise to the top. Earlier this week we caught up with the trio ahead of their show this Friday night in The Village with Residence. New releases, their work with David Guetta and the changing sound of Daddy’s Groove.
1) As is now standard with our interviews, we like to start them off easy. What is the history of Daddy’s Groove and how did you guys come together?
Well, it was a long way. We all started playing in our own city, Naples, and we knew each other in the Gianni record store that back in the days was the strongest one in the south of Italy. Since there we became good friends starting to do plans together, building our own studio and here we come.
2) Coming from Naples, what sort of opportunities were available for you there, both as djs and producers? Are you still based there?
Yep we are still based in Naples, where we have our studio and our company Test Pressing. At the beginning it was a lil bit hard but with internet and the right partners all around we were able to rock the market anyway. And then we had very good influences because in Naples we have had a very good club culture since the 90’s, so we could listen to the best dj’s from all over getting a great skill.
3) You guys seem to have a close relationship with David Guetta. Can you tell us how that came about?
We are working with him for three years now, we met him in Ibiza, we were at the right place in the right moment and we were introduced to him by Sebastian Ingrosso (at that time we just did the “Leave The World Behind” remix). So we were in touch with him very often till he asked to us some remixes and then came the collaboration on his “Nothing But The Beat” album.
4) What are your plans for your future with David and Jack Back Records? When it comes to the studio, do you guys have a routine? It must get confusing sometimes with three of you working in the same room!
On Jack Back we have just released a collaboration with our guys Cryogenix, “Vertigo”, and we are already working on something new, maybe after the summer. Actually it is very easy to work with David, even if he is always around touring. He is such a great talent and everything seems very easy with him! In studio we have a very good balance between us, we are working together for years and everything is very well organized.
5) Your latest single ‘Walking On Air’ with Dino is quite removed from your earlier works. What kind of sound are you going for now and where do you see it going over the next few years?
We wanna keep the balance we are having between more oriented electro club tracks and vocal tracks. About the future, we never plan in a too long term, we just work track by track trying to do our best and seeing what it comes. We love so much producing music and we’ll never stop!
6) You have been touring a lot over the past year or two. How do you manage to keep yourselves going and what do you find is the hardest part about touring?
The hardest part about touring is for sure the number of flights we have to get. But it is part of the work and we love a lot to play out our sound, so it’s worth for sure. Then we have a great team that help us a lot making things easy.
7) Can you tell is anything about your upcoming r
eleases or who you’re working with currently?
eleases or who you’re working with currently?
Well at the moment we have just finished a remix for Benny Benassi and John Legend and we are working on a couple of new productions as Daddy’s Groove. Big surprises coming really soon!
8) Last but not least: what are your guilty pleasures and how do you like to relax when you have down time?
Being from Naples our guilty pleasure is the food for sure! When we have free time it is all dedicated to our families of course, being around so much, we try to spend as more quality time as we can with them.
