When We Dip with Newbie Nerdz [Interview + Podcast]

Italian duo Alex Vovel & Dario Frenda, aka Newbie Nerdz, have caught our eye once more, building on impressive releases with the likes of  Gruuv, Skint & 303Lovers with another quality EP. This time around they’ve graced Underground Audio, delivering a tight three track EP, which has been quick in garnering huge support from big names across the board. With a grand ascent clearly ahead of the pair, we were delighted to have them in to get lowdown on the EP and, moreover, to have them kick off the summer podcast with their airtight mélange of house beats. It’s all below, enjoy!

WWD: Guys, thanks for taking the time to answer a few questions! Where are you right now? What have you been up to this week?

NN: At the moment we’re in Italy, Dario is living next to Rimini and Alex in Naples. We’ve spent all week in Studio, that’s what we’re doing almost everyday.

WWD: We’re loving the new EP on Underground Audio. Can you give us the lowdown?

NN: Everything came up after our sign on Gruuv, that’s our natural evolution. We did something Deep and Bass House with our influences inside.
The biggest lowdown is Hammer Studio, where we mixed and Mastered the whole EP, Mariano de Vita is the man!

WWD: Where did it all come together?

NN: We’re not living in the same city and we can’t spend so much time together in the studio, We are living in two different cities so it’s like mixing two different cultures, sounds and influences.

WWD: Any big plans ahead for the summer? Where can people catch you guys?

NN: We’re playing few gigs this summer around Europe but we’ll spend most of the time in the studio. We’re trying to define our sound and improve it day by day, we need a lot of time.

WWD: Lastly, What can we expect from Newbie Nerdz in the coming months? Can we look forward to more new music?

In three weeks our latest remix for Lee M Kelsall & James Silk on Nurvous Records is coming out. Our new Ep almost is ready and we’ve two Eps in collaboration with FreakMe and Moonwalk. A lot of new music is coming out!
