Rising German producer Thyladomid made his return to Solomun’s Diynamic imprint this month with emotive Mahfoud collaboration ‘The Real Thing’, a stunning release, which also featured the talents of Adriatique and Stimming. We caught up with the main man to get the low down on the EP, his ascent to the big time and his upcoming plans. It’s all below, enjoy!
You’re back on Solomun’s Diynamic for your latest release. Featuring on Diynamic not once but twice and also on 2DIY4 is both quite a feat and an amazing endorsement. Tell us a little about what it takes to make it as such a highly regarded label!
I must say that I always adored the artist and the music which has been released on Diynamic until now. I always wanted to have my own release on this Label. This is what I have been working for since 2006, where it all started for me. I’m very proud now.
The new EP has been very well received. Can you tell us a little bit about the production process? where did you put the track together?
Last summer I was looking for a singer on Facebook. Mahfoud send me a message that he is interested. After a few weeks we met and started to work. We quickly realized that what we guys were doing has little to do with techno. But we continued. We knew that it was something inspiring going around. We kept going and could finish my album within 1 year. After I finished the “The Real Thing” I was very nervous to send it to Diynamic. I wasn’t sure how the guys would react on it. I was surpised. They all liked it very much and we started to work on the EP.
Of course, Stimming and Adriatique look after the remixes. You been working with Adriatique for a while now, how did that relationship develop?
We are good friends. They are very reliable and this is very important to me. We started together and maybe will finish it together 😉 We always see each other on Diynamic Showcases and we hang around together.
What other achievements would make 2014 a good year for Thyladomid?
My upcoming Album will be released on Diynamic end of this year. There will be a few more features with Mahfoud coming also.
We’re well into the Summer at this stage. What’s been the highlight so far?
Diynamic Outdoor Party at Destino and my debut at Fusion Festival. Both are totally different experiences, but it was fun as hell.
You’re musical formation has been classically influenced, do you think it’s fair to say that your deeper knowledge or appreciation of music is reflected in the type of music you produce?
Definitely. My music is complety based on what I have learned on the piano so far. I still take piano lessons and I will keep practicing, so that my skills keep on improving.
We know you’re a PC & Fruity Loops man. Are there any other studio essentials you can’t live without?
Well I have changed since then. Now I do everything with logic. I started doing music with fruity loops which I still love. The sequencer is amazing J But now I have bought myself a Nord lead 4, which is my total favorite piece when it comes to hardware.
Stepping outside dance music for a moment, what else are you listening to?
I listen to a lot of different music. Classical piano music like Chopin is my favorite. But I love Coldplay or Son Lux for example as well. I go to concerts when I have the chance, watching other musicians, also from other genres, is something I enjoy very much.
Lastly, what do the next few months hold for Thyladomid? new music? where can we catch you?
I just finished my album, which will be released on Diynamic Music in late 2014. I have now been working on it for two years. Furthermore I am really looking forward to the ADE Diynamic Edition in October in Amsterdam as well as the Bermuda Diynamic Showcase at Ritter Butzke, like every year.
