The latest edition of the Select Cuts series sees us return to Europe’s dance music mecca Berlin to meet none other than Florian Kruse. The rising producer of Noir Music and Anjunadeep fame has just returned from a studio adventure in the Danish wilderness. He took five to fill us in on the inspiration behind the outing, his latest release and all that’s to come over the next few months, also providing the optimal soundtrack in accompaniment, sixty exhilarating minutes of deep, emotive House Music. It’s all below!
WWD: Thanks for joining us Florian!
Thx for having me ☺
Where are you right now? What’s been on the to-do list this week?
I am right in this moment on a ferry to Copenhagen. This week was pretty intense so far. I joined the Amsterdam Dance Event on Wednesday and Thursday, played a little set for the Beatport Live Stream for Exploited and went to a few cool parties such as Stil Vor Talent / Exploited showcase, Diynamic showcase, Noir Music pres. Dark Stars and more.
WWD: Talk us through the new release on Noir!
The track is called “Skylines” and it’s a feature with singer Hendrik Burkhardt who is an old friend of mine. Eagles & Butterflies and Noir are on remix duties which is a big honor for me. The vibe is dark, mystic and driving – That’s how I would decribe it in three key words.
WWD: Two massive remixes from Noir himself and Eagles & Butterflies. Did you have a role in selecting the remixers?
Yes, Noir asked about my opinion and I said that I really like the music of Eagles & Butterflies. He is already part of the Noir Music family and agreed on doing the remix straight away. For the second remix I was hoping to get Noir on duty and just asked him if he would be up for it. He agreed and I am so happy about the result. Both remixes are smashing productions in two different ways and I enjoy to play them out.
WWD: Tell us about your recent trip to Denmark?
Okay, for this I have to go way back to the past.
Since I am a 15 years old boy I always wanted to make a studio trip like this. Was reading a lot in interviews about other artists who were talking about their sessions in the mountains, in the woods or in other calm areas where no one distracts you from the creative process. The singer of “Skylines” (Hendrik) and I were driving to a calm place in the upper North of Denmark and spend one week in a house with most of our equipment set up in the living room. We ended up with 6 ideas (one idea a day) and now I am in the process to finish all of them. I gonna definitely do it again next year and I would probably extend the time staying.
WWD: For those who’ve never been, whats the music scene like there?
I can’t really tell about the music scene in Denmark. We barely left the house being honest with you. We concentrated on the music we were doing inside the house ☺
WWD: You had a very hectic summer. What are the most memorable moments from your summer season?
I played the very first time at Ushuaia in Ibiza. That was a great experience standing on such a big stage. My highlight of the summer.
WWD: Can you give us your three favourite hangouts in Berlin?
Club: Watergate
Food: Markthalle 9 Kreuzberg
Coffee / Lunch: I love to hang out at my neighbours place… hahaha – Good coffee, amazing food. Moved into the right house ☺
WWD: Aside from in the studio and behind the decks, where have you spent your time these last few months?
Was with my family in Sweden for 10 days. Love to go there every single year. Thats where my heart is beside home. I also extended my stay in Ibiza for a few days and my wife joined me for this special trip. Had a good time there even if the weather was not the best. We enjoyed the food a lot and were eating fresh fish every day.
WWD: Production wise, what else can we expect from you over the coming months?
I just signed a follow up to Noir Music. Other than that I have signed a track called “Broken Mirror” to Jeudi Records which is coming out in December.
