Mano Le Tough – Trails LP

When We Dip
Dublin, Electronic, Ireland, News
30 November 2015

Following Mano Le Tough over the years has brought many moments when you thank whatever force is out there that good music doesn’t get overlooked. Listening to his work mature, improve and ultimately bare more of who he is as a person and artist has been quite rewarding. His latest offering ‘Trails’, however, is a mixed bag. It’s one, which teeters on the verge of excellence but ultimately stays within an alleviated state of relaxation. It does leave the impression that there is more to come from Mannion.

Starting with the tracks that really resonated with me and impressed. ‘The Space Between’ is quite a minimal offering with intricate keys and drum kicks. While the lyrics are a bit weak, the tone of the voice suited the track. It’s a really well put together song. ‘Half Closed Eyes’ and ‘Empty Early Years’ are two of the strongest tracks on the album, very much an offering for the dance floor. They’re deep house numbers that border on infectious, while they oozes depth. They are true Le Tough tracks.

Generally, the vibe from Le Tough is quite emotive. ‘Energy Flow’ stands out as one of his most emotionally honest tracks, a true reflection of self. While the other tunes are by no means weak, some do not resonate on the same level as those mentioned. However, the variety of production and sounds are impressive when broken down over numerous listens.

Overall ‘Trails’ has everything you expect from Mano Le Tough, emotive, diverse electronic music. A quality offering that old fans can connect with and new fans can discover.

Words by Danny O’Sullivan.
