WWD: Hi Mihai, thanks for joining us!
Thanks for hosting my podcast!
WWD: How are you today?
I am a bit tired, returning home after a short but very intense tour in Australia last weekend.
WWD: Talk us through your latest release on Poker Flat! Where did you put the tracks together?
The release has 4 tracks that are out on vinyl as well as digital and they were produced at my home studio earlier this year.
WWD: You’ve released on some of the best labels and played some of the best parties out there. What goals are you still working on achieving?
That’s true, last few years have been great for me and to be honest all I wish is to keep it up like this, I am happy with my status at the moment.
WWD: There’s been a lot made of the rise of Romanian producers in recent months. In your eyes, how is the health of the scene in Romania?
I think it made a lot of progress during the last 5 years and we can speak about a mature scene at the moment in Bucharest. There’s a lot going on there every week and I could say we have one of the best scenes among european capitals at the moment.
WWD: Who are the local guys impressing you right now?
First thing that comes to my mind is the young and very talented duo Mano & Azteca who are super hot at the moment. They got a lot of experience behind the decks during their summer residency at Kudos Beach on the romanian Black Sea coast and they also started to release quality music.
WWD: What were your three biggest records of the year so far?
Martin Landsky – Under The Bridge
Sebo K – Catalyst
Dexter Kane – Shades Of Dusk
WWD: Can we expect more new music from you before the close of 2015?
By the end of this year I will have some remixes out but no other releases.
WWD: What do you hope 2016 holds in store for Mihai Popoviciu?
My main focus for 2016 is my new album that will come out next spring on Bondage Music. I hope that it will turn out as I want it and that my work will be well received.
WWD: Lastly, you’ve provided an exclusive new mix for us. What will one find in there?
It’s a mix with music that I like and play at the moment and it also features two of my new tracks that have just come out on Poker Flat.
