Brooklyn-based producer Brian Cid has had an exemplary 2016 to date featuring top quality records with the likes of Guy J’s Lost & Found, Berlin’s Get Physical and Zagreb imprint Save Us. The When We Dip family are honoured to welcome him into the hot-seat of our central mix and interview series this week. Ahead of a fresh release on west coast imprint Manjumasi, the rising talent supplies an awe-inspiring tape, while also sharing news on his other projects and his upcoming Burning Man debut.
WWD: Tell us about your upcoming release on Manjumasi! how did you first connect with Atish and the label?
Thanks for having me again! Very excited about this new release. I connected with Atish on one of his trips to NYC. He had been supporting my tracks a lot and expressed interest in me preparing something special for his new imprint Manjumasi, a joint venture he shares with his music partner Mark Slee. I felt it would be a great idea since we share very similar music taste. We selected two very special tracks called Hidden & Costa Verde and prepared an amazing package with remixes from DJ/producers Nico Stojan and Jon Charnis. Both originals have a very hypnotic groove and deep intriguing deep melodies. The remixes are just perfect. The EP will be out Aug 18!
WWD: We hear that you’re currently collaborating with Holmar Filipsson of Thugfucker. Can you share with us some details on the project?
Holmar and I have an amazing creative flow. Flawless energy in the studio. We enjoyed it so much that decided to launch a new project called Theory Of Light with a more alternative music direction. It allows me to explore other musical areas that I wouldn’t in my solo project. That makes it very interesting. We kicked it off with 2 remixes out August 5th on Cityfox. We are currently working on an full album, a very special and original one I must say. It will be a full psychedelic musical experience!
WWD: You’ve had a busy Summer and life won’t be slowing down anytime soon. You’re making a late August / Early September trip to Nevada?
Summer has been very busy which makes it great. The end of it will be even busier with shows all over the US & Canada. I will be finishing off at Burning Man with four very special shows.
WWD: Is it your first Burning Man?
I am a virgin burner!! can’t wait to pop the cherry!
WWD: For those heading along, where can they catch you spinning?
Catch me at Root Society, The Kazbah, Miki Mau and a surprise camp that I will be announcing soon. I will be also roaming around enjoying the art and the people.
WWD: What’s the essential prep for a trip like this?
Your mind and soul. Get ready to press the reset button!
WWD: Looking back, what’s been the highlight of your Summer so far?
Aside from very cool shows including RotoFest in Ecuador and the US, very cool remix projects. I just finished one that will be released on Get Physical, which is a collaboration between Circoloco residents System of Survival and Andrew Grant!… Theory Of Light of course! I’ve also been working on my upcoming mini album on my imprint Extinct Records.
WWD: You’ve been on fire in the studio. From where have you been drawing your inspiration in recent months?
Brooklyn’s night life and afterhours! Currently the hottest spot for underground music in the world. No question!
WWD: Are you a proponent for philosophy pushing electronic music forward? What are you trying to create/influence with your music?
Music to me is a vehicle to get to people’s soul and bring them moments of happiness and inspiration. Fill it with positive uplifting energy. Take people to a place they’ve never been before. To teach that love, hard work and dedication leads to greatness.
WWD: What else would make 2016 a good year for Brian Cid?
The continuous love and support I’m getting from people all over the world. That’s all I strive for. It’s been an amazing year so far full of great shows, very cool music and artistic growth. I plan to continue this journey and enjoying every step of the way.
WWD: Before we leave you, can you tell us a little bit about the mix you’ve crafted for us today?
This is a very driving & melodic set. It will keep you moving for sure. I usually play this kind of style in Brooklyn where groove and deep trippy vibes are essential. And of course, as usual, I sneaked in one of my new unreleased tracks… find it if you can and enjoy at loud volume 🙂
Brian Cid – Hidden EP is out August 18th on Manjumasi.
