David Löhlein is a German DJ, Producer, Club Resident and label owner from Stuttgart, Germany. His label and party brand Vision Ekstase is flying high at the moment with a string of strong releases and events being showcased on the scene. We caught up with him to find out about his new “Barracuda” EP and how it came to be, and also what exciting plans he has for Vision Ekstase in the foreseeable future…
WWD: Hi David, great to meet you! How are things with you at the moment?
Hello there, first of all thank you for the invitation and glad to meet you. It is in any case very wild times. A lot of projects, a lot of work, a lot of hustle but also a lot of results.
WWD: Your new EP “Barracuda” is incredibly hard hitting and intense. Is there any particular artist you draw inspiration from?
Thank you! 🙂 A real role model in the EP I did not have. After my album I had a long studio time and just produced it. For sure this EP came from the wild club times after Corona.
WWD: What was your setup when making these tracks?
I now produce completely in the box again. I had long considered buying new synthesizers but finally I came to the conclusion that I do not need anything like that. I get my desired sound in the box and by now you can get a high end sound at least as good with digital processing. Apart from the fact that it’s a lot easier to re-call or edit projects. Analog is not a must have if you want to produce good music. As a good plugin I can definitely recommend Omnisphere with which you get really insane results.
WWD: Is there a particular type of studio gear that you gravitated towards when making this?
As mentioned above, there is no analog gear. However, I love my studio monitors the Adam S3V.
WWD: Do you have a favourite track amongst the 4?
It is difficult to say. I think each track has its own vibe and is difficult to compare. If I had to choose, it would probably be Barracuda.
WWD: Which electronic music have you been listening to recently? Any top tips of up and coming artists to watch out for?
In any case, all the artists of the Vision Ekstase gang. Fabian Wegmeth, Rove Ranger, Symon, Shin and Ahura. Apart from that of course Egotot, Mad Maex and a lot of new artists from the Stuttgart region like Jannik Aßfalg, Daniel Wich, Nobel Cortex, Concussion and many more.
WWD: What about non-electronic artists?
Apart from techno, I have a few projects outside of electronic music. One of them is a german rap / pop project I’m doing together with Crimson Sky. Here we just released a new song called “Highlife” together with the singer MARA. There will be more to come in the near future.
WWD: Do you have any future plans you could share with us?
Ohh we have some big plans with the Vision Ekstase. Of course in Stuttgart but also many outside Germany. Furthermore, very much music comes in the future, in several projects. We want to see many new horizons with Vision Ekstase and I can’t wait for that.
WWD: Finally, last question! What is your favorite club to play in?
There is no question about it. Of course, Lehmann Club!
