Hailing from Sydney and based in Amsterdam, Heritage Listed is a house producer you won’t want to miss. Since crossing the pond a year back, Heritage Listed has played venues in Australia, France, Switzerland, and the Netherlands.

Founded in late 2023, his home label Basics Recording, in partnership with Le Hutin, has hosted showcases across Europe and North Africa and released a few compilation vinyl featuring some of the most influential names in house music today.

His latest release ‘Feelin’ It’ is a five-track EP that captures the essence of a transformative period in Heritage Listed’s life. Written during his move from Barcelona to Amsterdam, this compilation spans a range of soulful house to disco-infused bangers, reflecting the personal growth, struggles, and joys of a crazy chapter.

As change and growth are often challenging, this EP serves as a testament to the strength found on the other side when one makes it there. It marks a time of healing, introspection, and reconnection with loved ones, and with himself. With ‘Feelin’ It,’ Heritage Listed is more ready than ever to embrace the next chapter of his musical and personal evolution.

We sat down with the artist to discuss his new release and a bit more about this transformative period of his life.

WWD: Heritage Listed, what’s happening in your world at the minute?

Hey, great to meet you too! Right now, I’m deep in the studio working on new music and promoting my upcoming EP. I’m also planning gigs across Europe with my label Basics, so things are full-on, but in the best way.

WWD: Congratulations on releasing ‘Feeling It’ on Basics Recordings. Can you talk us through the release?

Thanks! It feels incredible to have this one out. It was one of those tracks that clicked while I was making it. I wrote it in Barcelona while my parents were visiting from Australia, so it holds a special energy. The support so far has been unreal, and I’m stoked.

WWD: You run the label with Le Hutin. How did that collaboration come about?

We connected over Instagram a few years back while I was living in Buenos Aires, and ended up meeting in person at one of his De La Groove parties in Paris. From there, we stayed in touch and realised we had a strong shared vision for house music.

Basics kicked off after that, we came out the gate with around 20 signings, a solid back catalogue, and a 12” vinyl already in motion. From the start, the idea was always bigger than just releases, we wanted to build something with heart that could move across cities, throw parties, and connect a wider community.

WWD: Where did you grow up and how did your environment shape your relationship with music?

I grew up in Sydney’s suburbs. I don’t come from a musical family, but music was always around me. In high school, I had a lot of friends who played music and shared music with me, so naturally, my interest grew from there.

Sydney is a city with heaps of extraordinarily talented musicians, so I was lucky to be surrounded by them, too. They helped me grow and develop a deep love and appreciation for them.

WWD: You recently moved to Europe! What inspired the move?

I always wanted to live in Europe at some point since I finished high school. After I started producing house music during COVID, it was the perfect excuse to get out of Australia, since Europe’s house industry (and music in general) is so enormous.

It took a couple of years to officially make the move, but so far, so good. It’s been a rollercoaster, but I wouldn’t trade it for anything.

WWD: What differences have you noticed between the scene in Aus and Europe?

The European scene feels more established and integrated into daily life, there’s a deeper history, more venues, and constant movement between cities.

In Australia, it’s more DIY and community-driven. It’s much smaller, but full of heart. Both have their charm, but Europe offers more opportunities to grow and connect.

I’ll always be proud of Australian music, though. We consistently punch above our weight globally, and that’s a testament to the level of talent we offer.

WWD: Who was the most influential person in your life growing up in terms of your musical development?

I had an incredibly talented friend back in Sydney when I was first learning guitar who, from the beginning, taught me jazz harmony and technique.

That was my first plunge into playing Jazz, and I’ve never looked back. I don’t think my music would be anywhere near the same if it hadn’t been for him. It’s shaped my sound more than anything.

WWD: What’s the first memory you have of making music?

Playing a keyboard that my Sister got for her birthday, I remembered being drawn in by all the crazy sounds it could make, so I spent a lot of time messing with it and trying new things out.

WWD: What’s the most unexpected lesson you’ve learned throughout your career?

That consistency beats inspiration. I used to think creativity came in waves, and I had to wait for the right moment, but I’ve learned that showing up regularly, even when you don’t feel ready, leads to growth, breakthroughs, and opportunities.

The magic’s usually in the doing, not the waiting. No one will come and hand you a career. You have to go and get it.

WWD: What’s a key piece of advice you would give to your younger self at the start of your journey?

Don’t be afraid to take risks and put yourself out there. And stop overthinking. Just do it, back yourself, and trust that things will fall into place.

WWD: Wise words! Thanks for the chat 🙂
