Paul Christian has been collecting and playing records for many years, but it was in 2023 that he took off with a residency and his own events at Hotel Shanghai in Essen. A music-first policy and stripped-back set up soon spread by word of mouth, and Christian got bookings around the wider region. His vinyl-only sets are big on emotion and span Afro, progressive, melodic and house with driving percussion and organic grooves. Christian is also a graphic designer and video editor who shows his class with this debut on NON MERCI MUSIC as he continues to make an ever more vital impression.

The sophisticated ‘D’Jambu’ immediately speaks to the soul with its spiritual vocal soaring above the warm, bubbly and afro-inspired beats. Majestic chords rise up to heighten the atmosphere while delicate percussion sprinkles the grooves next to lush, soothing harmonies, and the overall effect is one of blissful escape.

Remixer and label head Fiona Kraft has quickly made the imprint a go-to for lovers of innovative sounds in the afro, deep, techno and minimal worlds. It reflects the sounds she makes in the studio and plays as a DJ, while she also runs the innovative eyewear brand IMPURI. Her version strips things right back to allow the life-affirming synths room to breathe over the supple, hypnotic drums. It’s a quietly epic track for deep contemplation and intimate dance floors.

You can now listen to the full premiere of Fiona Kraft’s ‘D’Jambu’ remix, exclusively on When We Dip. Enjoy!
