SlowTown chief Rhythm&Soul strives to deliver House Music of the finest quality. Some of you might have caught his latest release and the 10th for the vinyl only imprint already (if not check it out below), ‘Lost Grooves’ is sultry cut with true house vibes. Sitting down with the label boss this week, he filled us in on the release and all the work going down at label. He’s also mixed a very special vinyl-only recording exclusively for our are readers. Enjoy!
Thanks!! Well it’s our 10th release of the label so a great occasion to make my first solo EP on the label. I’ve been working on the tracks at the end of last year and i put them together and made the mix downs earlier this year. It’s definitely a mix of the kind of tracks i usually play. Groovy and hypnotic stuff. Trying to reflect the sound i’m into as a Dj and producer.
WWD It’s the tenth release on Slow Town. What inspired the decision to start your own label?
We built up the label with my partner and friend Julio in 2012. We thought that it was the right moment to start the project and give our vision of House music to the world. At that time i was living in Paris. A city that definitely inspired me to get deeply into House vibes. So we started the imprint releasing only vinyl records and i’m quite proud of these last 3 years. We released a bunch of great artists of the scene, newcomers and classic heads… And we learned a lot in terms of driving a record label.
WWD : What have been the three most difficult aspects of establishing the imprint?
First of all to find a great concept. That means a clear and strong music direction, a good artwork and define strong ethos.
After that to find the right distributor. We finally found it last year with Juno (UK).
And last but not least to find a great workflow between us and work hard on timings and our schedule. As nowadays delays on pressing plants are one of the major issues if you aren’t working with a correct timing.
WWD : What can you tell us about your personal release schedule over the next few months?
On the next few months i will release an EP on (Djebali) presents. A division of (Djebali), one of the greatest label at the moment in my humble opinion.
Then another Ep for my friends of Organic Music. They are doing a super job and the last Diego Krause EP was huge!
I have also some stuff coming with my buddy Jef K on our imprint On A Mission Records and other labels.
And some more hot stuff to be announced soon 🙂
WWD : With regard to Slow Town, what’s on your horizon? Have you any exciting projects on the way?
Well for the next release we have a great EP by a german duo from Hamburg. 4 amazing tracks! raw and deep stuff. And after that we are working with a Detroit producer that has been on the spot during this year and probably after that we will release some music from fresh new talents…
WWD : What do you look for signing an artist and their track?
We are looking for good House music. Signing tracks is a feeling thing you know! Even if it’s a good track we have to feel the vibe and it has to fit with the label sound.
In general we ask artists for music. Artists that we like and that are inspiring for us.
But sometimes we also dig new artists or release music from demos that are really hot!
WWD : We’re delighted to have you put a little mix together for us. Tell us about the track selection process!
When i record mixes or podcasts i never make a track selection. I know that i want maybe to put this or this record specially if i have some Slow Town’s Test pressing or some new records by some friend or myself. But i never make a selection to record mixes. I like to do it the way i’m feeling when i start to do the mix… I really believe on spontaneity on dj mixes. Thats the way i like it. And always vinyl mixes as i don’t have CDJ’s at home…
I Always try to make a good balance between new and old music. Even if for this one there’s quite a lot of new records i got these last couple of months. Including my last Slow Town release (Slow Town X)
WWD : One track/secret weapon that’s gonna make a big impact this Summer?

Djebali Reworks 03 – Urban Posture (John Dimas Whateverest Mix)
