What have we got for you this week we hear you ask? Joining us to curate the latest episode of the When We Dip mix series is none other than Italian producer and dj Lehar, one of the standout performers in 2016. To date, the Venice local has showcased an onslaught of top quality compositions on two of the brightest imprints out there; Diynamic Music and Connaisseur Recordings. Not only has he recorded an exclusive hour long recording for the family, he also took the time to field some of our most pertinent questions. Enjoy!
WWD: You’ve just released on Diynamic with the Magical Realism EP. Talk to us about your relationship with the label!
Hello and thanks for premiering my latest track! My relationship with the label is special. It’s been 6 months since we’re working together, but I feel like it’s been years as I have a close relationship with most of the people inside.
WWD: How would you compare the artist experience in working with an established label like that to releasing with smaller imprints? What does it bring to your career?
Before Diynamic I’ve been releasing almost exclusively on Connaisseur Rec., which is smaller of course, but always top quality. Of course joining the Diynamic Music family and releasing music on it gives you a great visibility worldwide, and by that getting the chance to reach more people with your music. The structure of Diynamic at the moment is a perfectly organized mechanism – you have so many professional people which are working with you everyday to make all your goals become reality.
WWD: Production wise, your stuff is sounding incredible. What did it take to get you to this stage in your career?
Thanks a lot! On thing was definitely that since I changed studio I have a better acoustics, which allows me to have a real feeling already in the first steps of the production process. Then – day by day – I try to learn more and more.
WWD: Where and when did you put the Magical Realism EP together?
The entire EP was made last spring, the first weeks I made Fantasia and Bianca Dreams, and after them I worked a couple of weeks on Magical Realism. I sent everything to Mladen and we agreed together on how the debut EP should be.
WWD: You’re fresh from performing with Solomun in Ibiza (June 30). Are you at home on the white isle?
Yes, it’s been so many years since I have been going multiple times during the summer season to Ibiza, for clubbing and relaxing as well.
There are few secret spots I have with my girl where we can recharge ourself in close contact with nature.
WWD: Can you give us one track that marked the evening for you?
I always feel blown away when I play one track I produced with Adriatique in their studio in Zurich last winter. It’ s a very special track to us, everytime I play it people go crazy.
WWD: You have also a very close relationship with Connaisseur, another top quality imprint. Is there a process behind choosing where releases go?
Well, when a track is finished I listen to my feelings and think about which label would be a better match. Actually I have an EP coming out on Connaisseur next autumn as well, which is planned since a year, but still sounds very fresh to me.
WWD: Djs/Producers often get asked the one piece of advice they’d have for up and comers. Flipping the coin slightly, what the biggest mistake you’ve made in getting to this point and what did you learn from it?
I’m a very ‘enthusiastic’ person and for this reason I can be too fast in my decisions sometimes. In the past I had forgotten some things behind me, but I’m trying my best to balance this aspect of my character.
I like to be positive and let this energy be the engine of my life, but I feel sometimes a little less rush would do me good. Giving myself a bit more time to think before I run, you know.
WWD: In your eyes, what’s left to achieve for you in electronic domain? have you any objectives?
There are so many things still I have to learn and do. As I always say I try so hard to turn my dreams into objectives and achievable goals. In these past two years everything happened so fast but still somehow organically, and this is good because I feel I have the control of what I am doing.
WWD: Looking more short term, what do you enjoy doing outside of music in the Summer months?
I love doing sports in special places inside of nature. And I love swimming in the sea đŸ˜‰
WWD: On the music side, what would make Summer 2016 a success for you?
I already feel very lucky and I’m happy how people are reacting to my “Magical Realism EP”. This gives me the inspiration, motivation and energy to work harder and harder.
WWD: Lastly, you’ve kindly put a little mix together for us. What will one find in there?
Pleasure to make this mix for you. You will find lots of new upcoming music which will be released in the near future by myself and my team.
