Barcelona-based artist TÂCHES stops by to chat before jetting off to the west coast of the USA for a return to Desert Hearts Spring Festival (March 31 – April 3). The uber-talented producer is all set to launch his very own imprint very soon and he took the time to run us through the process, while also delivering a very special Desert Hearts warm-up mix.
WWD: Great to have you here Alex! What’s been on the agenda today?
I cooked a whole octopus and burst the front tire on my bike. Pretty uneventful really.
WWD: We hear you’ve just repotted your kentia palm. How’s he holding up?
Since I moved him into a larger pot, he’s grown so big and strong. Sometimes I sit with Kevin (the kentia) close enough beside me that his leaves poke me in the face while I read. Plants are delightful.
WWD: Away from the botany, you’re busy working on a number of new projects. What can you tell us about your focus right now?
Aside from the TÂCHES project, I’m currently in the process of getting my NEW label up and running. I’m really excited to be able to share some thoughtful and eclectic pieces of music with the world.
WWD: What excites you the most about running your own label?
I feel that as an artist, having an imprint of your own makes total sense. It’s an extension of your passion; a place where you can give life to your dreams and a platform to raise high above your head that which truly resonates with you emotionally. I’m really looking forward to shocking with some of the label’s releases – I’m not looking to keep things within one specific genre, but rather maintain a feeling of playful creativity and love throughout.
WWD: What can you tell us about the inspiration behind the name?
The label is called Glitter Cowboy. Cowboys are a symbol of freedom and so is glitter – More details on all of this soon!
WWD: You’re heading back to the states for Desert Hearts very soon. What is it about the DH crew that has it held in such high regard?
I feel that a lot of the success of Desert Hearts stems from their ability to run a gathering that perfectly balances animalism with thoughtfulness in a safe and loving atmosphere. You have this overwhelming feeling that you can be whoever you want to be and that time is irrelevant. You feel sustained by the beautiful authenticity of everyone there. You fall in love every second of each day and when you leave, you feel ever so lucky to have been there for those moments in space and time that you glow inside for months to come.
WWD: What are your three favourite things about the west coast?
Mexican Food
The West Coast homies
The desert (dessert is also good)
WWD: Production wise, what can we expect from you in the coming months?
You can expect a lot more live musicians, each bringing with them a unique personal understanding of music and the influences and flavour of their pasts.
WWD: Before we let you slip away. you’ve mixed a new tape for us ahead of yourappearance at DH. What’s the vibe in here?
Groovy, introspective and full of twinkles. A foggy memory of a distant lifetime.
