The latest edition of the Select Cuts mix series is brought to you by our guest Aidan Doherty, the founder behind UK outfit Warm Up, a London based community delivering exquisite emotional experiences through electronic music. The crew, throwing parties since 2013, has brought a host of top international acts to the city including the likes of Guy J, Lee Burridge and HOSH, cementing their place at the fore of the sound in the city. Not only has Aidan provided a lethal, exclusive sixty minute mix, he also took the time for a quick chat. Enjoy!
Favourite warm up gig in 2017?
Back in May we did our 4 years of Warm Up outdoor day party at STYX with myself, Jorge and Gus. It was a really beautiful day with blue sky’s and lovely warm weather. The event was totally sold out which is always a great thing. The atmosphere we created that day was unreal, especially as the sun was setting. After having such a great time I decided to launch Warm Up Open Air which would be a series of follow on day parties at STYX with just me, Jorge and Gus at the helm, they went down a storm this summer. Can’t wait to do it all over again in 2018.
1 artist you want to book in 2018
I would like to bring back Guy J, I think he is an incredible DJ / producer and an all round roll model on how an artist should act. He is humble and has no diva attitude like lots of other artists out there. I have so much respect for this man.
Best set you played this year?
I think it has to be my recent closing set at our last outdoor WUITW rave which funnily enough ended up being in Autumn (oct 14th) crazy madness eh. I truly enjoyed every second of it, the connection with the crowd was immense. Its not always easy as a DJ to capture the attention of a crowd and keep them engaged with you for duration of the set. I felt that I was really on top of my game that night / morning. Nothing quite beats playing to a Warm Up crowd.
1 gig/festival you want to get booked for in 2018 ?
I would be a dream to play at Thuishaven in Amsterdam. This place is truly bonkers. It would also be great to play at Village Underground again here in London, the sound, vibe & production in there is next level. It’s a fantastic place to play.
Best gig you went to (not warm up 😏)
Best gig Ive been to this year has to be the Innervision’s party at ADE. It was in a 300 cap church in the middle of nowhere somewhere outside out Amsterdam. Very unique and intimate experience. It was a real honour to be there.
Top tip for upcoming promoters?
Be patient, build a community around you through quality resident DJ’s, throwing money at big booking’s and hoping that your brand will take off is simply not sustainable and wont work. Be specific about your identity & sound as a brand. Be prepared to loose plenty of money and get very frustrated, this is unfortunately an inevitable fact being a promoter in London. It’s tough out there, and gets tougher every year.
Where can we catch you next?
I will play B2B with my Warm Up brother Jorge Martins this Sat at WUITW. My next official solo gig will be on the 24th Nov at our event with Rodriguez Jr live at Bloc. Outside of London I will play in Manchester on the 1st Dec at the Sacha & Digweed event at WHP. Im really excited about this one!
