Montreal-based heavy hitter Mayfie has been fast garnering much spotlight in the electronic space with his firebrand techno touch. With releases on Starskream & Throne Room Records, the French producer is fashioning a thunderous signature. He is also the resident on the monthly Body’s Up Radioshow, where he hosts producers from across the tech spectrum including guests from the likes of Drumcode, SCI+TEC, MOOD, Rukus & Bedrock. Catching up with the maestro this week for a little Q&A action, we talked Piknic Electronik, Summer highlights, and much more.

WWD – Glad to have you Mayfie, thanks for chatting with us.

Mayfie – Hi guys! thanks for having me, always a great time chatting with you!

WWD – How has your summer been so far – did your sets at Piknic Electronik and your club gigs go well?

Mayfie – I have to say I never experienced a set like Piknic! A perfect sunny day in Montreal surrounded by friends, family and the Starskream Records family – it was a heavy techno day sharing the decks with Atroxx and Kloves! This day was all about love and introducing my music to one of the biggest Montreal scenes.

I also had the chance to share the decks with D-Unity downtown Montreal for the Formula One Grand Prix – another techno night to remember.

Finally, I was glad to perform last August 15th for the first time at ‘Le Salon Daomé’ , for the Kontrast Montreal monthly event. It’s been a 3 year residency for the Kontrast Techno team and I was really excited to joined for one great party!!

WWD – How has the thriving Montreal techno scene influenced your progression as a producer and DJ?

Mayfie – The Montreal Techno community is really strong. It’s unbelievable when you see the amount of Techno events around the city, summer is full of high quality festivals.

You also find some of the greatest producers here and meeting those people has had a huge influence on me. It really pushes you to step outside your comfort zone and experience new sounds.

WWD – Do you have any new projects in the works?

Mayfie – I have 2 single tracks on the way in the coming weeks on my Body’s Up Release Series called ‘Venim’ and ‘Memory Man’. The series of free downloads has been a real success so far and I’m really glad to share my work this way.

I also recently finished an EP with Toronto producer Jeremy Stott, no release date yet!! Stay tuned;)

Finally on the gig side, we’re working on upcoming Montreal shows as well a potential date in Ottawa before the end of the year.

WWD – Tell us about your Body’s Up Radioshow – whats it like running that mix series?

Mayfie – I’m really excited each month to prepare the new show. It was kind of a challenge at the beginning, but I’m really taking the time to introduce my guests and talk about them, not just play the music like ordinary shows. I’m lucky to receive such talented and international artists. The show is also the best way to introduce my new music to my listeners who can find details about some unreleased songs from myself and also other producers in the scene.

WWD – Who can we expect to see on the show in the coming months?

Mayfie – Super pumped for the coming shows – we will finish the summer with heavy hitters!!!
First for episode #15 in August we just hosted Carlo Ruetz, with recent releases on Rukus as well as his Stormer EP on Mood Records.

And for September, I’m hosting another Drumcode artist – Harvey McKay. He has recently released on We Are The Brave and Filth on Acid.

So yes, the next months will be really exciting for my Body’s Up Radioshow.

WWD – What have you been listening on the headphones recently – what’s your ‘track of the summer’

Mayfie – I don’t have that ‘one song’ that I listen on repeat… A lot of decent releases have been out these last couple weeks.

On the electronic side of things, I have to admit that Enrico Sangiuliano’s album ‘Biomorph’ on Drumcode is a masterpiece. A true example of a future vision of Techno music.. it transports the listener to another level.

Outside of electronic music, as i do like to escape a little bit, I’ve enjoyed listening to the new album from Jason Aldean called ‘Rearview Town’. It’s that country style which I can relate to at the moment as its about being a father.
