Australian three-piece outfit Crooked Colours have been on a roll lately––from their electronic pop hit ‘I’ll Be There’ two months ago, to joining Irish pop favorite EDEN for a leg of his world tour, to launching their second major US headlining run––the band is now back with their newest offering ‘Do It Like You’.
‘Do It Like You’ shows off an almost unheard sonic realm of Crooked Colours. Typically sitting in their own niche of the indie electronic space, their newest single nods its head to the best of Alt-J, but with the digital touch of RÜFÜS. It’s a step out into unfamiliar territory, but one that warrants an applause and multiple listens. Fitting the general soundscapes of the band, the song revolves around a foundation of guitar riffs, but the melodies and percussion choices are actually one of the most peculiar parts of the record; it’s an evolution of their sound, and also a display in boldness and minimalism.
‘Do It Like You’ is out today, and comes ahead of Crooked Colours’ sophomore album, due some time in 2019 via Australian label Sweat It Out. You can catch the band on tour, performing tonight in Santa Ana, and tomorrow in Los Angeles.
