EDGE continues a successful year by welcoming Sha-ullo to the label for his debut EP. Hailing from Israel, Shaulli Hararri aka Sha-ullo has a near decade long career in electronic music. As one half of the Las Salinas duo, Shaulli achieved remarkable success in the trance arena, landing releases on the genre’s premiere imprints, most notably Armada, Anjunabeats, Vandit, and Ultra. With little left to achieve in genre, the Israeli artist was in search of new challenges. Upon meeting fellow countryman and Plattenbank boss Guy Mantzur, Shaulli fell in love with music once again and began his journey into the world of progressive house. September of 2019 saw the release of his first solo production, a contribution to Plattenbank’s ‘Secrets #5’ collection, appropriately titled ‘A New Beginning’. A subsequent EP for the label along with a contribution to ‘Secrets #6’ have highlighted 2020, setting the course for what has been a great year. Now continuing this new and inspired journey, Sha-ullo debuts on Belgium’s EDGE with ‘Rebirth’.
Spread across three tracks, it’s the vibrant grooves of ‘Mamish’ which gets the release underway. Commanding and powerful, it’s punchy beats and muscular low-end creates the foundation for euphoric arps, detailed percussion and heartfelt overlays. Emotive chord changes flow through the low end, elevating mood as electric effects strike at opportune moments. The second of two breaks proves impactful, melting down to a colourful harmonic haze, before tasteful modulation sparks a dynamic drop and driving finale.
The second and also title selection ‘Rebirth’ follows suit with an equally impressive display of rhythm and musicality. A bed of broken beats and warm bass swells anchors the journey, while layers of choir-like pads and shimmering arps create a compelling canopy of sound. Nicely timed, the main break builds anticipation through waves of white noise, perfectly setting up a heartfelt finale of emerging atmospheres and acidic artefacts.
The release is capped off in fine fashion with the reflective moods of ‘Mind Reader’. Expertly amalgamating genres, Sha-ullo marries haunting motifs with pulsating grooves and tranquil textures. It’s a poignant and highly engaging storyboard, eventually leading to an impassioned two-minute interlude, putting a bold stamp on what is an astute collection of music from Sha-ullo.
