Still in its early days, Classic has really started to rear its head under the assured guidance of Luke Solomon and Derrick Carter. Last week’s release, the boldly-titled “This is House EP” from Giano (Ian Lujon) has certainly caused a stir, storming up the Traxsource chart and deservedly so.Opening the EP with a sermon in House origin, This is House features voice clips from the genre’s founding fathers giving their two cents on its meaning and background. Underlying these clips is an old-school groove, of which said founding fathers would no doubt approve. Interjected with a perfect sax line, this track lacks little.
Veering away from the title track along a darker, more modern trajectory, The Underground shows the breadth of Giano’s repertoire. This rolling track over looping Shock G vocal lines is relentless and absolutely addictive. With this one, Giano’s produced a true floor-filler of the Jackin’ House variety.
A dub of The Underground wraps up this package nicely, with traces of acid complementing and overall providing a similar yet nonetheless satisfying take on the track.
