After a nearly two-year hiatus, Montreal’s best party Vision is back showcasing another one of its beloved parties to celebrate Halloween. LOST PLANET will feature three amazing international .artists: Francesca Lombardo, Mihai Popoviciu, and Mustafa Ismaeel.
We spoke with the three artists about their connection to the city of Montreal, upcoming music and more. Enjoy!
MIHAI POPOVICIU
WWD: You are soon playing in Montreal for the Halloween party of Vision. What is your relationship with Montreal?
Mihai: I played in Montreal few months ago at Stereo Club and it was a fantastic gig, I enjoyed every minute of it! I loved the great vibe and energy of the people and felt like home there. Unfortunately I did not have time to visit the city much because as most of the times when I go to play somewhere, I was just in and out.
WWD: What is your best memory from the city?
Mihai: Luckily this time I will spend 2 more days in Montreal after my Halloween gig at Vision and will have time to make some nice memories.
WWD: Who is your favorite Canadian artist?
Mihai: I have always admired Mathew Jonson for his musicality and complex productions. His live act is one of the best I have seen.
WWD: On the music side, what do you have upcoming that you can tell us?
Mihai: My last release of this year just came out recently on the british label Inermu. For next year new music will be released on vinyl on Bondage Music. You can also expect few remixes in between.
FRANCESCA LOMBARDO
WWD: You are soon playing in Montreal for the Halloween party of Vision. What is your relationship with Montreal?
Francesca: I have been going to Montreal for a decade now and I have played both Stereo and Stereo Bar previously. I absolutely love both rooms and I love the dance floor because people really know how to let go and dance there. The energy that builds each time I play is healing in a way and always leaves a massive smile on my face.
I have managed to spend some nice time in Montreal building good friendships. I love the city as it has a lot to offer and it’s beautiful.
WWD: What is your best memory from the city?
Francesca: Spending the week there once, being able to visit the city and enjoy restaurants. Best experience was moules and frites for me 🤗
WWD: Who is your favorite Canadian artist?
Francesca: Whoof, that is a great question and a difficult one too! I will be honest.. Solvent! He is the founder of Suction Records and also a massive influence in disco nouveau music genre. He was very successful for his album “Apples and Synthetizers” that I deeply love.
WWD: On the music side, what do you have upcoming that you can tell us?
Francesca: I have a remix of super talented Mikey Lion from Desert Hearts coming up soon and I am writing some new music for Crosstown Rebels and another label that I can not reveal at the moment. Besides that I probably have 20 tracks which are ‘work in progress’. I don’t know where they are gonna end up.
MUSTAFA ISMAEEL
WWD: You are soon playing in Montreal for the Halloween party of Vision. What is your relationship with Montreal?
Mustafa: There’s only a few cities in the world where you get the feeling that the music scene has more depth and history behind it, for me Montreal is definitely one of these cities. I was fortunate to be introduced and exposed to the Montreal scene through my good friend Adam Husa with whom I played multiple gigs in the city. Since the first time I played at Velvet back in 2016 to the last time at Stereo Bar in August, it has always been a great experience.
WWD: What is your best memory from the city?
Mustafa: There’s too many to be honest. I think the time I played b2b with Adam Husa at Stereo Bar in 2019 was very special.
WWD: Who is your favorite Canadian artist?
Mustafa: Really depends on the genre and style but as an overall I really like and admire Dan Snaith from Caribou for his musical abilities and the forward-thinking mentality he has.
WWD: On the music side, what do you have upcoming that you can tell us?
Mustafa: It has definitely been an exciting time in the studio the past 6 months and I’m happy to say that there will be a lot of new music coming out this winter. Between original tracks and remixes, I think I have about 8 tracks either ready or in the final stages. Will be testing out a few at the Vision Halloween event 🙂
