Presenting their first release of the year, EDGE welcomes Eric Lune and Juan Sapia to the label for their debut EP. Hailing from Australia, Eric Lune emerged from his country’s progressive music landscape in 2018. Noted for his emotional dance floor productions, Eric’s craft shines through vividly, making each one of his creations an incredibly absorbing experience. A debut on Sound Avenue foreshadowed what has been a four-year creative swell for the Melbourne resident. A string of well-received projects for Balance Music, Plattenbank, Proton Music and Sound Avenue have yielded play and support from Guy Mantzur, Eelke Kleijn and Nick Warren.
Meanwhile, hailing from the progressive house hotbed of Argentina, Juan Sapia has enjoyed a similar rise to success since first emerging in 2017. As a favourite of progressive music tastemakers Hernan Cattaneo and Nick Warren, the Buenos Aires resident has compiled an impressive resume, landing releases via Mango Alley, Or Two Strangers, Sudbeat Music and The Soundgarden. Now, combining their extensive forces for the first time, Eric and Juan debut on EDGE with ‘Diamonds’, alongside a remix from Eran Aviner & Hermanez.
EP opener and title selection ‘Diamonds’ finds that perfect balance between rhythm and musicality, as Eric and Juan let hopeful atmospheres descend over warm beats and layers of dusty drums. Thematically distinct moving forward, soulful strums and scenic vocal edits ring out in timeless suspension, elevating mood while providing a bridge into the main break. Sure to be a memorable dance floor moment, percussive slowly melts away across the centrepiece, as melodic clusters emerge and each sound becomes an event in a slowly expanding landscape, zooming out to reveal a world of scale in which depth and contrast coax perfectly with colour and emotion. The inevitable zenith of this heartwarming narrative peaks with a rare combination of hope, heartache and reflection, ultimately setting the course for a groovy drop and tasteful finale. Meanwhile, the companion piece ‘Himalaya’ lands with an equally impressive display of craftsmanship, as Eric and Juan reaffirm their progressive prowess, planting multiple explosions of serotonin through transcendent melodies, vocal overlays and glassy motifs. Clever musical co-actions make for a break that is both poignant and otherworldly, flowing through wavy arps and emotive key changes, before confidently returning to the groove for a sweeping, acid-laced finale.
The release concludes with Eran Aviner and Hermanez returning to the label with the lone interpretation of ‘Diamonds’. Hailing from Belgium but currently calling Israel home, Eran Aviner created one of his country’s leading nightlife brands. As EDGE co-founder Eran transformed Belgium’s electronic music circuit with events featuring Adriatique, Guy J, Hernan Cattaneo, John Digweed, Lee Burridge, Sasha and more. As a revered DJ and producer himself, Eran’s impeccable taste and exquisite programming skills have seen him share the stage with the world’s premiere talent, while his production resume beams brightly with projects via Plattenbank, Sound Avenue and Sudbeat.
Also hailing from Belgium, Hermanez brings an inventive approach to his brand of electronic composition. Throughout his varied discography, he touches on disparate themes and sounds, straddling a divide between intergalactic design and organic-inspired beats, resulting in one amorphous sound of his own. Initially known for his timeless, tech-soul productions on Mobilee Records, Noir Music and Suara, the Genk resident has enjoyed a career renaissance across the last half decade, remodelling his sound with deeper, more musical and delightfully organic leanings. It’s a shift that has propelled him into one of the genre’s elite talents, in turn landing him projects via All Day I Dream, Bedrock, Lost & Found, Shanti Radio, Souksonic and TRYBESof. As occasional studio partners since 2019 and most notably on the 2020 EDGE offering ‘Aria’, Eran and Hermanez now masterfully synthesize their talents once again, resulting in a stunning rendition of ‘Diamonds’. Rather than burst into a dancefloor whirlwind or electronic symphony, the duo’s re-construction evokes its emotions through slow burn repetition, dodging expectations and painting idyllic scenes of solitude, as hypnagogic synths and panoramic effects unite, unveiling a semi-conscious dreamland, one where perfectly sculpted beats, voluptuous grooves and fluttery synth swagger transfer that state of mind to the dancefloor.
