When We Dip is proud to premiere the Hypnotized Mix of ‘Tranquilized & Hypnotized’, the first single from Dance Spirit’s long awaited second album, Lunatic. After a six year hiatus, the acclaimed Los Angeles duo return with a body of work that has quietly waited years to be heard, and they arrive entirely on their own terms through their newly launched independent imprint, Koukan.

‘Tranquilized & Hypnotized’ is a slow burning piece of downtempo electronica built around Dance Spirit’s signature percussion, modular textures and dreamlike melodies. The full release features three distinct interpretations of the track. The Original Cut presents the album version, blending vocal led downtempo electronica with hazy, unhurried atmospheres. The Tranquilized Mix strips the composition back to its emotional core, letting the melody and vocals drift weightlessly through an ambient listening experience. The Hypnotized Mix, which we are premiering today, reimagines the track for the dancefloor, transforming it into a hypnotic minimal groover while preserving the dreamlike essence that runs through everything the duo touch. As Christopher Mohn puts it, the song ‘explores that space between enlightenment and destruction’, a reflection on how some of life’s greatest transformations arrive through heartbreak, loss and unexpected challenges.

Originally completed before the pandemic, Lunatic remained unreleased for six years before Christopher Mohn and Reagan Denius reunited to bring the project to life. Rather than let the music stay unheard, the pair chose to release it themselves, marking both a creative reunion and the start of a new chapter. Scheduled for September 25, the album is an eleven track multimedia project accompanied by original visual works for every song, an immersive exploration of duality, transformation, healing and human connection told through Dance Spirit’s cinematic approach to electronic music.

Dance Spirit have long been a fixture of underground electronic music, championed by respected labels such as Get Physical Music, Crosstown Rebels and Bedrock Music, with performances stretching from Coachella and Lightning In A Bottle to Burning Man sound camps like Robot Heart. Their new home, Koukan, takes its name from the Japanese word for ‘sympathetic resonance’, a fitting title for an imprint founded on the belief in the unseen connection between artist, listener and sound itself. With ‘Tranquilized & Hypnotized’, Dance Spirit open the door to Lunatic and to everything their new label promises.
