Hamburg’s own renowned powerhouse HOSH has taken his firsts steps into the label game in recent months launching what is already proving itself as potentially one of the most exciting club-oriented imprints to look out for in 2018. Among the talented line-up assembled by the German label boss is esteemed Canadian producer Tone Depth, an artist with an impeccable package of studio skills. Tone Depth’s previous works have been snapped up by killer imprints such as Noir, Sudbeat and Bedrock, while also curating his own budding imprint Fauna & Flora out of Montreal. The Quebec-based producer makes a stellar first impression on Fryhide with the engrossing four track ensemble titled ‘The Odyssey Part 1’, showcasing a matured, finely-crafted sound that bridges the best of deep, synth-laden sounds in house and techno.
Opening the EP is a powerful deep techno cut with a harrowing atmosphere. ‘Obstacles’ is a certain after-hours dance-floor weapon, combining a throbbing bass-line and a hypnotic, tension-building arp. Track 2 is synth-driven ‘Controller’, a somewhat brighter affair with an immaculate build rising from the breakdown. Minimal yet delicious. The aptly titled ‘Olympus’ is our pick of the bunch, presenting front and centre Tone Depth’s production prowess in a simple yet commanding beast of a track. Closing out the collection is ‘Redflag’, it’s a pulsating melody-infused gem with a wavering bass-line.
Tone Depth – The Odyssey Part 1 is set for release via Fryhide on December 8th. Buy here.
