Fouk return to Heist for their ‘Mirage’ EP, backed by Elisa Bee on remix duties.

Dutch duo Fouk, aka Daniel Leseman and Hans Peeman, follow up their 2021 ‘Blue Steel’ EP on Dam Swindle’s Heist Recordings with the kaleidoscopic ‘Mirage’ EP. Injecting a dose of the pair’s signature funk and disco-infused sounds, ‘Mirage’ showcases a more club-ready side to their sonic register, tapping Hardgroove artist Elisa Bee for a high-octane remix of the leading track.

Title cut ‘Mirage’ opens the EP with a perfect blend of classic house warmth, soul, and new school production techniques. The drums are fresh and bring plenty of drive beneath chopped-up vocals drenched in soul, filtered chords, and a party-pumping bassline. ‘Coffee’ slips into a deeper aura with smooth but propulsive drums and chords that ooze late-night cool. It’s a sophisticated sound perfect for cosy dance floors before ‘Tapioca’ explores a more tropical vibe. The lively percussion and shakers bring jungle heat to the shuffling drums as taught synths ride up and down the scale before turning into old-school stabs to take things to the next level.

Next Up, Elisa Bee’s remix of ‘Mirage’ is a heady percussive workout that builds on a breakbeat loop, driving drums and vocal fragments that will work the dancefloor into a sweat. Last of all is ‘Abalone’, a bleep-house kicker with tripped-out synth lines and warped bass topped off with more heartfelt vocal samples.

This is another EP rich with sumptuous sounds from the ever-on-form Fouk.
